Scoping & Planning
If you are responsible for ensuring a new project is developed and implemented effectively then you need to start with a clear plan.
We have helped organisations in Nottingham and across the East Midlands, with projects ranging from creation of a business plan, project managing the delivery of a new service or helping to solve the problem that involves people, time and resources. The principles are always the same and these are outlined below to illustrate how we would support you.
The first step is to develop the scope of the project. Ideally, we would meet with the leader and the whole team involved in the project. We use visual management tools to help everyone get involved with the scoping exercise. Brainstorming, Transformation maps and Problem Solving are just a few of the tools that we use. We find that the whole team enjoys this creative approach and it significantly accelerates progress and achieves high levels of ownership for change.
The scoping exercise allows us to determine a list of project goals, deliverables, tasks, and costs. It also covers areas such as:
- Clarifying what’s in and what’s out
- Identifying who’s involved and roles
- Identifying risks and opportunities
The final scoping document will set parameters for the project and give guidelines on how to make changes if required during the project. By being very specific from the outset it also reduces the chances of ‘scope creep’ and keeps everyone on track.
Once the scoping exercise is complete we can work with you to create a clear and robust plan which you and your team can follow. This builds on the work already carried out and goes more into detail. Some of the areas taken into consideration are:
